...WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 4 AM TO 12 PM EST
THURSDAY...
THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN RALEIGH HAS ISSUED A WINTER
WEATHER ADVISORY...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 4 AM TO 12 PM EST
THURSDAY.
A MIXTURE OF LIGHT SNOW AND SLEET IS EXPECTED TO OVERSPREAD THE
REGION LATE TONIGHT...BEFORE CHANGING TO FREEZING RAIN AROUND
DAYBREAK...THEN TO ALL RAIN BY NOON. THIS COULD LEAD TO A LIGHT
ACCUMULATION OF SNOW... SLEET AND FREEZING RAIN BEFORE THE CHANGE-
OVER TO ALL RAIN. SURFACE TEMPERATURES SHOULD SLOWLY WARM ABOVE
FREEZING BY LATE MORNING... THEN INTO THE MID 30S DURING THE
AFTERNOON.
SINCE THE PRECIPITATION IS EXPECTED TO ARRIVE JUST BEFORE OR
DURING THE MORNING RUSH HOUR... ANY LIGHT ACCUMULATION OF SNOW...
SLEET... OR FREEZING RAIN WOULD INCREASE THE POTENTIAL FOR A
SIGNIFICANT IMPACT DURING THE MORNING COMMUTE. THIS INCLUDES THE
PIEDMONT AND WESTERN SANDHILLS REGIONS... EXTENDING ROUGHLY ALONG
AND WEST OF A LINE FROM NEAR ROCKINGHAM TO SANFORD... RALEIGH-
DURHAM... LOUISBURG... AND WARRENTON. IT APPEARS THAT BRIDGES AND
OVERPASSES WILL POSE THE GREATEST PROBLEM FOR ICING.
A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY MEANS THAT PERIODS OF SNOW... SLEET... OR
FREEZING RAIN WILL CAUSE TRAVEL DIFFICULTIES.
BE PREPARED FOR SLIPPERY ROADS AND LIMITED VISIBILITIES... AND USE CAUTION WHILE DRIVING.
A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for the Triad Thursday morning into the afternoon. Areas around Greensboro and Winston-Salem could stay with a wintry mix through much of the day.
Stay tuned to Weather on the Ones on News 14 Carolina for the latest through the day.
