A couple weeks ago on August 10 a severe storm over Wayne County produced a macroburst, or an area of damaging straight line winds. That storm caused a lot of damage in Goldsboro including ripping part of the roof off one motel.
The National Weather Service office in Raleigh has prepared an in-depth case study on this thunderstorm. If you're really into weather and want to know more about the meteorological factors behind severe storms, this is a good read.
